The brownie was invented by a chef at the Palmer House hotel (hotel owned by Palmer Cox) in Chicago in 1893.
The name brownie comes from the name of the Brownie characters, Scottish
creatures that Palmer Cox drew.
He had cut the cake into squares to make it more presentable, and this is how, according to this legend, the brownie was born !
